Deutsch Statement on Passage of Rx Drug Bill
U.S. Rep. Peter Deutsch issues the following statement on the passage of the Medicare Prescription Drug bill:
“For 80 percent of seniors, this program will be of no help at an extreme cost. Seniors need real prescription drug coverage before the 2006 implementation date. Hopefully, before that time, we can provide real drug coverage for the 80 percent of seniors left out. At the best, this bill flushes $400 billion of hard-earned taxpayers money down the drain. At worst, it jeopardizes the existence of the entire Medicare system.
“This is a clear rejection of a failed policy that will do nothing to control the costs of prescription drugs that seniors pay. Clearly, the more seniors know about this program, the more they will want an alternative.”
