Dear President Bush,

We the undersigned are writing to urge you to support the "Stem Cell Discovery Through Diversity Act" sponsored by Representative Peter Deutsch. It is a comprehensive solution to the stem cell question, addressing the issue of funding for the research, how we acquire stem cell lines, what types of lines we use, and how we can make the research accessible to the scientific community going forward.

Each year thousands of Americans wait for cures from debilitating and potentially lethal afflictions such as Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and paralysis. American scientists are the finest in the world, but until we help them with federal funding for stem cell research, their advances will be stalled.

Stem cell research has broad, bipartisan support across the country - no less than Senator Orrin Hatch and former First Lady Nancy Reagan have spoken in favor of it. We urge you to join with members of Congress and Senators from both sides of the aisle and put American lives before politics, ending the ban on stem cell research funding.
