Peter for Equality
A Commitment to Women's Rights, Equality, and Health

Over the past four decades, Florida's economy has boomed and Florida's families have become stronger and more prosperous, thanks in large part to women across the state. Yet, the Federal government has failed to adequately respect and protect women on a host of issues, from health care to child care to fairness in the workplace.

As Florida's next U.S. Senator, Peter will fight every day to ensure that Florida's women get the respect and dignity they deserve. Peter will fight for better health care, better child care and economic justice.

Peter Accepts Endorsement from Women for Deutsch
Peter accepts the endorsement and active support of a new committee composed of prominent South Florida Democratic women. Learn about "Women for Deutsch"

For nearly a quarter of a century, first as a member of the State House in his twenties and early thirties, and then as a member of Congress, Peter has always fought for Florida's women. He has long supported efforts to ensure fair pay and hiring practices in the workplace. Peter helped pass the Violence Against Women Act, worked to help pass the Family and Medical Leave Act and consistantly support's a woman's right to choose. Peter successfully pushed into law a measure allowing mammogram screenings to be covered under Medicare as well as fighting to increase funds for ovarian cancer research at the National Institutes of Health and the National Cancer Institute.

"Republicans have made it clear that they wish to impose their personal views regarding abortion and birth control on everyone else. The only acceptable role of government is to ensure the availability of affordable, high-quality healthcare".

In 1997, Peter worked with Julie and Mark Fiedelhotz of Plantation, Florida, to try and improve access to safe, affordable and quality child care. Julie's and Mark's child died at a day care center and in hearing their story, Peter co-sponsored legislation to ensure child care centers in America are safe.

As Florida's next U.S. Senator, Peter will fight every day for a woman's right to choose. He will continue his fight to leave medical decisions in the hands of women, their doctors and their family. Peter has a 100% rating from NARAL and has always supported Planned Parenthood. In the Senate, Peter will continue to fight Republican attempts to overturn Roe v. Wade.

In the Senate, Peter will also fight to improve child care and strengthen America's domestic violence laws. And Peter will work every day to ensure that every single American has quality and affordable health care.

Peter will also work to ensure that women have access to job training programs and work to help single mothers find good jobs and quality, affordable child care.

As Peter says, "If Florida and America are to succeed economically in the 21st Century, we must ensure that women have equal access to good jobs, good pay, good child care and affordable health care. That's what I'll fight for in the United States Senate."
