Notes on Hosting a Fundraiser

Thank you for your commitment to help elect Peter Deutsch as Florida's next United States Senator. As you prepare to host Peter for your event, there are a few things to keep in mind during your planning. If you have any questions throughout your planning, please feel free to contact Jared Asch at (954) 987-9904.

Planning your event:

  1. Identify a potential host committee
One of the more efficient ways to raise your financial goal is to share the responsibility. For example, if your financial goal is $10,000 – find four additional hosts that will each commit to raise $2,000. Ideally, if the average contribution per person is $200 – that means each host is responsible for identifying 10 guests.

  2. Confirm a location for your event
Please notify the Finance office (954-987-9904) upon the selection of a venue for your event.

  3. Draft an invitation
Your invitation should contain similar language:

    Please join
    (host committee names)
    at a fundraising reception honoring
    Congressman Peter Deutsch
    Candidate for United States Senator
    (date) (time)
    (location)
    Suggested Contribution: ($$)
For more information, please contact: (contact information).

All invitations must contain the following language
"Paid for by Peter Deutsch for Senate" and must be in a box.

All invitations must be approved by the Finance office before being printed
Please contact Jared Asch at (954) 987-9904 prior to printing your invitation for language review and approval.

  4. Keep in touch with the Finance office
Please notify the Finance office (954-987-9904) upon the selection of a venue for your event.

  5. Important note on catering and event expenses:
Under federal campaign laws, an individual can provide up to $1,000 worth of food, beverages and invitations to a candidate’s campaign, without the value of these goods counting against the individual's contribution limits for that candidate. The individual must provide the goods while volunteering his or her personal services on that person's residential premises. This exemption from the definition of contribution and expenditure is over and above the regular $2,000 per election contribution limit that an individual may give to a candidate. This means that a couple, taking advantage of both the in-kind contribution limits and the exemption, could host a function in their home and pay up to $6,000 in food, beverages and invitations without exceeding the per election contribution limit.

At your event:

  • Congressman Deutsch will arrive (usually promptly) at the beginning of your event and will be accompanied by a staff member.

  • The format for fundraisers usually consists of a “meet and greet” followed by brief remarks. Congressman Deutsch usually takes questions from guests.

  • Personal thank you notes are sent by the campaign to any individual who contributes at your event.
