Welcome to PeterforFlorida.com
Thank you for visiting PeterforFlorida and for your interest in learning more about
my fight to make a stronger Florida.
For more than two decades, I have been fighting for Florida with all my heart,
my body, and my soul - and I've never been more proud to be a Democrat. In Tallahassee and in Washington, it is said that "Politics is the art of making the
impossible, possible." And in 20 years I have fought for better healthcare, education
funding and to protect the environment for Florida and my district.
Now this country and this state are in difficult times with a war on terrorism,
in Iraq, and an economy that has produced too much for a few and too little for
those who need it. And Florida continues to grow while being short-changed by the
federal government.
As Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. said, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent
about things that matter." I take those words to heart.
The day after I graduated from law school I went to work on problems
facing Florida's seniors. Some were being evicted from nursing homes,
and there was no law to protect them. I said we can't remain
silent; we
must do better. When I got to the State Legislature in Florida, I
introduced a measure that protected seniors from ever being
evicted from
nursing homes again. That is the law to this day.
My first day in Congress was just after Hurricane Andrew. My constituents
needed immediate help and that day, I filed legislation that helped thousands
in their rebuilding efforts. And, on my first day as U.S. Senator for
Florida, I will roll up my sleeves and work towards real universal healthcare
for all of Florida.
I have a proven track record of doing the right thing and
fighting for all Floridians, and that means standing for what's right,
even when it means standing alone. If you are
looking for a fighter for all of Florida, I am your candidate.
As I travel the state, I am more and more convinced that voters are
ready for a change. Please join me in the fight for a brighter future
for all of Florida.
Sincerely,
Rep. Peter Deutsch (D)
Member of Congress
